U.S.Vets-Houston have big plans for this year’s fun run
May 2, 2016 – Houston, Texas – The United States Veterans Initiative (U.S.VETS) – Houston will host its 7th annual Salute 2 Service 5K/10K (formally the Patriot Run) Saturday, May 21st at Root Memorial Square (1400 La Branch, Houston, Texas 77002). This race has a level for all runners.
There are 5 options: Timed 10K Run/Walk ($45), Timed 5K Run ($35), Non-Timed 5K Walk ($30), Kids K ($15), and the Rucksack Challenge ($60). There are opportunities to save $5 per registration by making a team of five or more for the timed 10K and 5K.
“The Rucksack Challenge is new this year, and we’re excited to see who will test their strength in this challenge. Carrying across 60 pounds of canned food 3.1 miles is quite a feat!” Austin Haag, Development and Activities Coordinator at U.S.VETS-Houston.
The contents of the backpack will be donated to the U.S.VETS-Houston.
Every registration includes a Salute 2 Service race bib, T-shirt, finisher medal, and entry to the post-race party. Online registration is open until May 20th. There will be an award ceremony for the top 3 winners in each 10-year age group after the race.
“These struggling veterans are our sons and daughters, our mothers and fathers, our brothers and sisters. At U.S.VETS, we believe we have an obligation to help protect and serve those who have served and protected us. This is why we are committed to helping our veterans.” Tom Mitchell, Executive Director of U.S.VETS-Houston. “We hope to see the community come out to enjoy the event and support our local veterans — as a runner, as a family of walkers, a volunteer, or a spectator.”
Among the sponsors for the Salute 2 Service 5K/10K are Give an Hour, Midwest Steel, and United Healthcare. Sponsorship inquiries to support the Salute 2 Service 5K/10K may be directed to lauren@irunproductions.com .
