Recovery assistance may be available for unmet needs
A team of trained and experienced disaster case managers, social workers, and emergency responders is ready to help those impacted by the devastating April 2016 floods in the City of Houston and surrounding counties.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Immediate Disaster Case Management
program provides services to states, tribes and U.S. territories when requested in a presidentially-
declared disaster that includes FEMA’s Individual and Households Program assistance. The
IDCM program is a free service, confidential and available to all affected residents.
Case managers work with disaster survivors to assess unmet disaster-related needs and to
establish an individuals’ recovery plan. The case manager provides links to resources that can
assist with housing, clothing, food, transportation and other needs directly related to the disaster.
“After a disaster, it can be difficult for people to navigate the myriad of recovery programs and
get back on their feet,” said Kari Tatro of BCFS Health and Human Services, the agency
contracted by the HHS Administration for Children and Families through its Office of Human
Services Emergency Preparedness and Response. They provide federal Immediate Disaster Case
Management services to disaster survivors.
“Our team is at-the-ready to provide in-person, compassionate care to people affected by the
disaster,” said Tatro. “Our case managers will act as a single point of contact to help streamline
individuals’ recovery process by connecting them to resources.”
Individuals who reside in Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Ft. Bend, Grimes, Harris, Liberty,
Montgomery, San Jacinto, Waller or Wharton counties are urged to contact or visit the Case
Management Resource Center at 16800 Imperial Valley Drive in Houston (near George Bush
Intercontinental Airport). Walk-in appointments are available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a
week.
