Claudia Ribera (rising 12th grade) placed 6th in the Nation this past week in Worlds School Debate at the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament in Salt Lake City. Claudia made the South Texas NDSA team (one of three in Houston) and was on a team of five (two from Bellaire High School and two from Lamar High School). She debate a number of prepared and impromptu topics. Her team was 5-1 in prelims and advanced through three more rounds of debate before falling in quarterfinals. Her team ended up 6th out of over 100 national and international tams. This is the highest placing of any Mayde Creek student at Nationals.
Alyssa Washington (rising 12th grade) also had a great showing. She competed in 6rounds of POI, and also excelled in Poetry, advancing 5 rounds of double elimination competition. Please congratulate these students and the MCHS Debate team.
