The Nike Invitational, scheduled for Aug. 11-13, expanded from 40 to 48 teams this year, and might have its most impressive field yet. A total of 28 Nike Invitational teams qualified for the playoffs last year. The event includes returning regional tournament teams in Seven Lakes, Cinco Ranch, The Woodlands and Magnolia, as well as area champions Cy Falls and College Station.
Seven Lakes won the Division I Bronze Bracket to place ninth, with Katy winning the Division I Consolation Bracket for 13th and Taylor and Tompkins both finishing 6-2.
The tournament starts with 12 four-team divisions, with pool play beginning at 9 a.m., Aug. 11. The championship match, which is the final of the Division I Gold Bracket, is scheduled 2:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at Katy Taylor High School.
