(August 11, 2016) HOUSTON – With its End Cancer Campaign winding down Aug. 31, IBC Bank is halfway to its goal of raising $1 million to help support the Moon Shots Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The campaign, which launched in June at the bank’s 204 Texas and Oklahoma branches, already has raised $500,000 toward MD Anderson’s mission to end cancer.
IBC Bank will match every dollar raised, aiming to donate $2 million to MD Anderson. The bank encourages customers, employees and the communities it serves to join in support of the cause by making a donation at any IBC Bank or by donating online at www.mdanderson.org/ibc.
Craig Bunk, executive vice president of IBC Bank-Houston, is a former MD Anderson patient and 14-year cancer survivor. The outstanding care he received at MD Anderson continues to have a profound impact on him today.
“I learned at a young age that I’m genetically predisposed to colon cancer,” said Bunk in remarks at the June campaign launch event. “MD Anderson saved my life with the level of treatment and quality of care I received before, during and after my diagnosis. IBC Bank’s alliance with MD Anderson will help fund research and treatments that can save lives.”
IBC Bank-Houston Chairman and CEO Jay Rogers said he’s proud of the way the bank’s customers and communities have come together to support a worthy cause aimed at advancing cancer research and treatment.
“IBC Bank has been honored to support MD Anderson for many years,” said Rogers. “As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we continue to do more for our communities, especially here in Houston, home to one of the leading cancer centers in the world.”
MD Anderson President Ronald DePinho, M.D., spoke on the important role corporate alliances play in funding research initiatives like MD Anderson’s Moon Shots Program, which aims to rapidly and dramatically reduce mortality and suffering in cancer.
“Through our Moon Shots Program, our world-renowned faculty and staff are applying groundbreaking technology, services and their expert knowledge to convert scientific discoveries into lifesaving advances,” said DePinho. “We’re grateful for IBC Bank’s support of our mission to eliminate cancer.”
