Creating a Backyard Wildlife Habitat

In preparation for our Fall Plant Sale, come learn about how to turn your yard into a wildlife habitat. We’ll discuss the importance of native plants, cover, and water to attracting wildlife, and we’ll go over some of the best plant species to use. Then we’ll go on a walk around the Arboretum to see these plants in both wild and planted settings. You’ll also get a copy of the Fall Plant Sale booklet to preview. Note: Ages 16 and up.
Fall Plant Sale

Join us for our Fall Plant Sale! We will be offering native grasses, flowers, shrubs, and trees – perfect for attracting butterflies, bees, and other pollinators to your yard or garden. Proceeds benefit the Arboretum’s conservation and education efforts. Members receive discounts on all plant sale purchases!

Explore the colorful world of art in a fun, relaxed party setting. In this class you will learn the basics of watercolor painting while you enjoy some delicious beer or your own alcoholic beverage from home. We will provide all the supplies you need (pencil, eraser, watercolors, brushes, and watercolor paper) to create your own original work of art based on beautiful native flowers from the Arboretum. Note: Ages 18 and up (must be 21+ to drink alcohol).

Fall is hiking season in Texas! Learn basic day hike essentials, the importance of practicing Leave No Trace principles, and discover where in our sprawling city you can find the best hikes. You’ll make your own hiking stick and practice using it while exploring some of the only hills you can find inside the loop. Each family member will take home their own hiking stick, Leave No Trace card, map of favorite local hiking spots, and collectible hiking stick medallion.

Every year millions of birds migrate through Houston, and mid-October is a perfect time to spot some of these beautiful migrants. Join the Houston Arboretum for an Early Bird Brunch celebrating this natural wonder. We’ll meet, learn about common fall migrants, and then go on a birdwatching hike. Afterwards we’ll head inside for some delicious brunch treats, including mimosas and the Arboretum’s own Early Bird blend coffee from Katz. Note: Ages 16 and up (must be 21 to drink alcohol)
