Obituary for George Leroy Sockrider

george-sockrider-picGeorge Leroy Sockrider, of Katy, Texas, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at his home.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eloise Norman Sockrider, and his parents, Kathryn Gill Sockrider and Roy Jackson Sockrider of Lake Charles, La.  He is survived by his son Howard Lee Sockrider and daughter-in-law, Dr. Marianna Martin Sockrider, of Pearland, Texas, and his grand-daughter, Laura Leigh Sockrider, of Austin, Texas.

George was born in Lake Charles, La.  He spent his youngest years in Hampshire, Texas.  The family moved back to Lake Charles, La. where George attended Lake Charles High School.  He attended college at the University of Houston. George owned and operated two gasoline stations in Lake Charles.  George married Frances Arlene Keys, and had his precious son, Howard.  He served in the U. S. Army. George spent his favorite years working as a state trooper with the Louisiana State Police. He later moved to Houston and worked as Director of Sales and Market Development for Smith Protection Agency.  His other passion in life was cars. He treasured owning a series of Corvettes through his life.  He raced and showed many cars winning a number of trophies.  One of his favorites winners was a drag racer known as the “Bounty Rat”.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm on the 10th of October, 2016, in Galveston, Texas at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.  George loved visiting Galveston and the historic Strand District.
