Applications for committee seats being accepted through August 24
AUSTIN – The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) today authorized the creation of an Advisory Committee for Purchasing from People with Disabilities which will advise TWC on matters relating to the State Use Program which assists individuals with disabilities in achieving independence through productive employment. TWC is accepting applications for volunteers who would like to serve on the Advisory Committee through August 24, 2015.
Recent legislation will abolish the Texas Council on Purchasing from People with Disabilities effective September 1 and transfer the administration of this program to TWC. The new Advisory Committee will begin work in September and will assist TWC by providing input regarding specific objectives, performance measures and rules related to the Purchasing from People with Disabilities program. In addition, the committee will recommend criteria for certifying community rehabilitation programs (CRPs) for participation in the program. CRPs promote the hiring of individuals with disabilities to provide goods and services for purchase.
Committee Members will be comprised of 13 individuals who will serve staggered four-year terms and may not serve more than two terms. Membership will include representation from the following:
- Four individuals from community rehabilitation programs (CRPs)
- Four individuals from organizations that advocate for persons with disabilities
- Four individuals with disabilities (two of whom are employed by a CRP)
- The executive commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission or designee
