Students from Mr. Cooley’s Practicum in Architectural Design met with local business owner, Mr. Kevin Franz, to discuss renovations to the shopping center located at 5315 U.S. HWY 90 in Katy. Mr. Franz is considering doing some exterior renovations to the property. Students walked the property with Mr. Franz for a little over an hour. He gave his detailed vision for the shopping center. Students took notes, reviewed blue prints, took measurements, snapped photos, and asked questions while walking the site.
This opportunity gave students their first chance to work with an actual client. Students were given a budget and other design criteria that were important. Mr. Franz said he would consider incorporating some aspects of the students’ work in the final renovation of the property. This opportunity provided an important learning experience for students
