Registration is now open
According to a study by the Girl Scout Research Institute, More Than S’mores (2014), girls who regularly spend time outdoors more readily seek challenges and are better problem solvers than their peers-qualities that will help them both academically and personally in the future. This summer, give your girl the opportunity to make lasting friendships, try new outdoor activities and develop a strong sense of self.
Registration to attend Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) summer camp is now open with dozens of sessions to choose from. Week-long sessions begin June 11 and end July 28 and are held at one of three Girl Scout camp locations: Camps Agnes Arnold and Misty Meadows located in Conroe, Texas and Camp Casa Mare located in Seabrook, Texas. Girl Scout camp is open to all girls in grades 1-12, including non-registered members.
Shadow Lake is the main attraction at Camp Agnes Arnold. The lake offers 35 acres of cool, refreshing fun for campers. Girls who attend sessions there will enjoy canoeing, swimming, nature and fishing and sleeping in unique accommodations, including platforms tents and tress houses.
Camp Casa Mare on Galveston Bay is a tropical paradise for ocean lovers and landlubbers alike. Special interest sessions focus on water sports, such as sailing and kayaking. Girls who enjoy land activities, can participate in fencing, archery and spa days.
If your girl enjoys horseback riding, then she would enjoy visiting Camp Misty Meadows. The camp’s equestrian center includes four riding areas and a head of 40 horses waiting to be ridden, loved, hugged and groomed by campers. In addition, girls will enjoy swimming, archery, going on nature hikes and cooking outdoors with friends.
This year’s camp sessions include opportunities for girls in high school to earn Basic Sailing certification, become a camp counselor in training or train to be a canoe, sail or equestrian aide. Older girls age 12 and older can opt to have a more adventurous camping experience visiting New Braunfels, climbing Enchanted Rock and tubing down Comal River. Short and Sweet two-day sessions offer the first-time camper who might not be ready for a full camp session, a taste of camp life. There is something for every girl from every background, even those who’d like to take a “campanion,” like mom or grandma or her entire family along (July 5-7 at Camp Agnes Arnold and Camp Misty Meadows).
Camp registration can be completed one of two ways: online or by submitting a registration form through the mail. Sessions start at $200. A $50 deposit per session is required for all registrations and balances can be paid in monthly installments. Camp scholarships or camperships are also available.
