AUSTIN, TX- Today, State Representative Ana Hernandez filed House Bill 1947, which establishes the Texas Promise Scholarship Program. Modeled after Tennessee’s successful initiative, the bill would empower local community colleges to partner with industry stakeholders to provide tuition-free programs for students entering into key majors critical to local economic growth and workforce needs.
“Texas’s global standing rests on investing in our greatest resource: our next generation of workforce leaders,” Hernandez said. “By reducing students’ financial burden and supporting local workforce needs, our state will send a clear message that Texas is serious about maintaining its competitive edge into the Twenty-First Century.”
