Area attorneys are invited to the Tuesday, March 28, 2017 lunch meeting of the Katy Bar Association at 11:30 A.M. at Hasta la Pasta, 1450 W Grand Parkway South, Katy, Texas.
The guest speaker is Geoff Garber. His topic “The Legal Evolution of the
Federal Research and Experimentation Tax Credit”, is an overview of Federal and Texas Research and Development Tax Credits, and legislative changes from the PATH Act of 2015.
The presentation will cover relevant statutes, regulations, and case law, shaping the research and development tax credit landscape, specialized expenses as patent prosecution that can qualify for R&D tax credit treatment, effectively reducing the cost of acquiring a patent.
He noted that the R&D Tax Credit applies to businesses that are designing products, processes, formulas, software, and other inventions, even if such innovation would not be novel or non-obvious to the industry.
Mr. Garber received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from The University of Texas at Austin and Juris Doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2010, where he focused on intellectual property.
He is a partner with BRAYN Consulting LLC, a tax consultant and licensed patent attorney.
Mr. Garber’s professional experience included working with Deloitte Tax. He helps companies claim previously uncaptured tax benefits, improving cash flow, assisting clients in the manufacturing, construction, architecture, engineering, biotechnology, software, and oil and gas industries, among others.
President Elizabeth Pratt remarked, “This month’s program touches on strategies to save our clients money, tax benefits in the intellectual property field. Area attorneys are invited to our lunch meeting and earn an hour of CLE.”
