Hurricane Harvey – Salvation Army Response – Houston Area

The Salvation Army has been providing disaster relief for over 100 years. An 8-person Incident Management Team from Florida is leading the current Hurricane Harvey response efforts in Houston supported by local and state Salvation Army staff.

Services for Hurricane Survivors

  • 12 Mobile kitchens currently serving hot meals, snacks and hydration to up to 1,000 people per day to Hurricane Harvey survivors in heavily affected flood areas. An additional 18 mobile kitchens are expected to arrive by August 31st.
  • 6 Salvation Army locations are continuing to provide emergency shelter to families and individuals who have evacuated their homes.
  • Salvation Army Officers are praying with survivors and providing emotional and spiritual care to storm survivors.

Services for First Responders

  • Mobile feeding providing hot meals, snacks, and hydration today to first responders.
  • 2 shower trucks at George R. Brown Convention Center offering first responders hot showers. Trucks have the capacity to offer 400 showers per day.

As of August 30, The Salvation Army has served 18,634 prepared meals, 5,079 drinks, and 2,995 snacks in the Greater Houston Area, in response to Hurricane Harvey.
