Museum opens after minimal damage from Hurricane Harvey

Calendar Announcement

The San Jacinto Museum of History is pleased to announce that we will be able to open the Monument for the public on Saturday, September 2. We are sensitive to the heavy burden and damage that hurricane Harvey caused for many of our fellow museums. Our structure was not effected and the grounds are finally clearing and the roads are cleared and getting dry. The mission of our State Historic Site is to provide a place where the public can honor and reflect on our history. We look forward to sharing our treasures with the public once again and hope to see you soon.

More on the Museum: The San Jacinto Museum of History is operated by the San Jacinto Museum of History Association—a non-profit organization—in association with the Texas State Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).  The Museum of History owns and curates the collections of artifacts and documents housed in the monument and staffs the movie, library, exhibition spaces and elevator ride to the observation floor. The San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site—a national Historic Landmark—is home to the monument, San Jacinto battleground, the San Jacinto Museum of History, TPWD park, its amenities and the Battleship Texas.

Attractions run by the Museum include the special and free permanent museum exhibits; the famous 489-foot elevator ride to the top of the Monument; the digital presentation Texas Forever!! The Battle of San Jacinto.
