A groundbreaking ceremony was held to mark the start of construction on Typhoon Texas, a water park located on a 43-acre near Katy Mills Mall at 555 Katy Fort Bend Road.
Led by developers and Katy residents Keith Dalton, Terry Hlavinka and Ray DeLaughter, the project is billed as one of the best water parks in Texas. Financed by Texas Capital Bank in cooperation with private investors, the park is scheduled to open in May 2016. The park will feature a variety of top class amenities including a wave pool, lazy river and slide rides for all ages. According to developers, the park will also boast the cleanest water in Texas with a state of the art water filtration system.
The Katy Area Economic Development Council played a role in making the project possible from its early stages with site selection, technical and advisory assistance as well as economic impact and demographic information.
“We were very intrigued when we first heard about this project a few years ago and our organization immediately agreed to help,” said Katy Area EDC President/CEO Lance LaCour. “Our area does not have any attraction like this and I believe it will be an excellent addition, particularly for families. The project will also have an extremely positive economic impact on our area. Hats off to the City of Katy City Council and city staff for recruiting this entertainment venue to the City of Katy and Katy Area.”
