1978 South Africa 1oz Gold Krugerrand valued around $1,000
Houston, TX (December 19, 2017) – The Salvation Army of Greater Houston has received a third gold coin!

An anonymous donor dropped a 1978 South Africa 1oz Gold Krugerrand, concealed inside a white envelope, on Saturday, December 16 at the red kettle outside of a Walgreens on 1919 West Gray.

Two gold coins were donated on Friday, December 1st at our red kettle site outside of Walmart, located at 1118 Silber Rd. Those Gold Coins were Canadian 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf, dated 1984 and 1985. The coins were tucked in a dollar bill and wrapped in a note reading, “A child is born, Jesus! Merry Christmas!”

There are only four days left in The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle fundraising campaign.

With the support of the greater Houston area, The Salvation Army hopes to raise over a $1 million. The money raised will support the programs and services The Salvation Army of Greater Houston offers throughout the year.

For those who would like to donate but do not have cash or change when they come across the red kettles, you can make your donation online at SalvationArmyHouston.org.

For more information about the programs and services The Salvation Army offers in Fort Bend, Harris and Montgomery Counties, please visit SalvationArmyHouston.org or call their main number (713) 752-0677.
