Sugar Land, TX – Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) today issued the following statement chastising the Supreme Court for failing to protect religious liberties in granting a new civil right of same sex marriage:
“Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis is facing a jail sentence because the Supreme Court failed to protect her constitutional right to practice her faith freely. In granting a new federal civil right of same sex marriage, the Court also violated the 10th Amendment to the Constitution by usurping state’s rights to determine their own destiny on the issue of marriage. The United States Constitution has been violated by an activist court that chose to issue a new civil right that was not granted by our forefathers or properly added to the Constitution through the amendment process. Kim Davis should not be facing a jail sentence for standing up for her First Amendment right to freely practice her faith. I stand firmly with Kim Davis and the protection of our God-given liberties enshrined in our Constitution.”
