Supporters of Katy Contemporarty Arts Museum continue to send their support to the owner/curator Ana Villaronga-Roman. Here is the latest one.
“Growing up in a family that appreciated and collected art and after taking several classes at Rice University in art, sculpting and art history, I was so excited to discover KCAM soon after opening my Emergency Room, ER Katy, that is just about a mile away. When I first went to KCAM and met Ana, I was so impressed and excited by what I saw. The collection showing at the time not only was very high caliber but its presentation was at the quality level of many of the museums that I frequented in Houston when I lived in the heart of the Museum District on Montrose Boulevard. After going to a few functions and shows at KCAM over the next few months, I soon realized that this museum is definitely the hidden jewel of Katy. Ana gave me a tour and told me about all of the work that she had done so far and about all of the projects to come. I was so excited about the museum’s future and I could imagine all of the great functions that would occur at KCAM as Ana’s amazing ideas came to fruition. From the side patio by the train track I could see many museum patrons enjoying a cool fall evening sipping on wine while enjoying a new up and coming artist. In one of the back smaller rooms I could see small groups of art lovers sitting on couches discussing the current art show with jazz playing in the background while having specialty coffees and desserts from a local pastry chef.
I was so excited to hear that Ana may eventually put in a small movie theater that showed vintage movies and served food, wine and beer from local restaurants, breweries and wineries.
I have been twice to lunch at KCAM on Fridays and thought they were a great way to end the week. Who doesn’t love sitting amongst beautiful works of art while meeting new people over a wonderful lunch? ER Katy was so fortunate to be involved with sponsoring an amazing show Ana put together with the works of Roberta Harris . It was spectacular and Ana did an amazing job. Again, this was as quality of a show that I would have seen many times in the Houston Museum District.
Now to hear that Katy is at risk of losing its beautiful jewel is very upsetting. Every growing city deserves and requires an art district. This adds so much value to a city for many reasons. From its educational aspect to its peace, tranquility and beauty aspect, this is not something Katy can afford to lose as it continues to develop into such a wonderful, growing, and dynamic city. Yes, a museum can be moved, but it is very difficult to find a space that lends such a feeling to an area and presents art in such a way that KCAM and Ana have done. We, the citizens, businesses and government of this proud city should do whatever it takes to keep KCAM in its current location and build on what Ana has done such a great job with so far. “
