More than 100 local owners, business executives and community leaders filled Clancy’s Public House, located at 503 FM 359 in Richmond Tuesday, January 5, 2016 for the Central Fort Bend Chamber’s monthly Breakfast in the Bend. January’s Breakfast allowed members to support business, network and hear the latest information on a new community program designed to bring nature closer to suburban life. Jim Kidda, the Program Coordinator for the Long Acres Ranch Nature Tourism Center in Richmond, explained the impact the 750-acre ranch on the river bend will have in our community. Kidda discussed new pilot programs the nature center is working on including heritage festivals and paddle tours on the Brazos River. Long Acres Ranch has partnered with the local non-profit, Fort Bend Green, to set up guided paddle tours through the Brazos River to show visitors and residents this hidden gem in Fort Bend County. “The Brazos River is a gorgeous paddle. When you get on the Brazos River, you don’t realize you’re in the city or a growing area. It’s thickly wooded down the river banks,” says Kidda about the experience.
The Long Acres Nature Tourism Program will provide outdoor recreation activities to visitors, and will conduct educational training and research when it opens later this year.
