AUSTIN, TX — Celebrating this year’s Black History Month, Texas Democratic Party Vice Chair Fredericka Phillips issued the following statement:
“February marks the beginning of Black History Month. As we reflect on the progress we have accomplished, we also understand that there is much to be done. From making sure we have a just and fair criminal justice system to fighting for higher incomes, investing in our neighborhood schools, and expanding healthcare coverage for all, we must put all hardworking families first.
“Black Texans have given so much to our state. That is why the Texas Democratic Party reaffirms its commitment to advocate on behalf of those without a voice and ensure that everyone in Texas has a chance to achieve the American dream.
“As Congresswoman Barbara Jordan once said, ‘We have a positive vision of the future founded on the belief that the gap between the promise and reality of America can one day be finally closed. We believe that.’”
