Houston, TX –  State Representative Jim Murphy is proud to host the West Houston Teen Leadership Summit at Norris Conference Center at CityCentre this Saturday, February 20th from 8:30am to 2:30pm. The summit, the first of its kind in the Houston area, is geared towards connecting high school students with local, statewide, and national leaders, from top level executives to high ranking politicians. The summit is designed to engage young minds in group discussions with experts and to drill down on specific policy issues.

Distinguished panelists will contribute their talents to discussions on Business, Politics, Media, and Personal Leadership with local teenagers aged 15 to 17 years old. This year’s event is completely full and exceeds two hundred participants from nearly 20 West Houston high schools. It is free of charge to all participants.

Among the list of distinguished guest speakers are former Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst, current Mayor of Houston (and former State Representative) Sylvester Turner, and U.S. Ambassador to Qatar Chase Untermeyer, who bring with them years of political, business, and legal experience.

The Teen Summit has also attracted top Houston-area leaders to participate. Panelists include Former Mayor of Houston Bill White, University of Houston President Dr. Renu Khator, and longtime KPRC news anchor Linda Lorelle. The Greater Houston Partnership will also provide attendees with an in-depth economic analysis of House District 133.

“We are identifying potential leaders and giving them the training, tools and background while they are still in high school.  Our community needs leaders now and in the future, and we appreciate the huge outpouring of support from our sponsors, speakers and attendees,” said Rep. Murphy regarding the event.

State Representative Jim Murphy represents District 133, West Houston. First elected in 2006, Murphy serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Corrections and is a member of the Ways & Means Committee.  Murphy also serves as Floor Leader for the House Republican Caucus.
