SUGAR LAND, TX– Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) today issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s plan to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay (GTMO):
“Congress has repeatedly passed legislation in opposition to the president’s plan to close down GTMO, including the most recent defense authorization bill that specifically prohibits bringing GTMO detainees to the US. While this may be a long-term priority for the president, he cannot unilaterally ignore the will of Congress and the rule of law. Equally troubling, he has presented no specific plan for how he will shut it down. I will continue to oppose any effort to shut down this facility and endanger the safety and security of the American people.”
