I applaud Ken Paxton for defending House Bill 2 (HB2) before the United States Supreme Court. HB2 which passed during the 83rd legislative session, ensures the health and safety of women at facilities by holding the clinics to the same standards as ambulatory surgical centers while also requiring practitioners to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the facility. HB2 was upheld by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals but is now under attack in our nation’s highest court.
As the proud author of the sonogram bill and co-writer of HB2, I fully support Paxton’s effort and I remain committed to protecting women’s health and safety when making such a fateful and life-altering decision.
