SUGAR LAND (April 19, 2016) – McDonald’s Restaurants of Greater Houston in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston have united in support of the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center:  A Very Special Project of the Children’s Museum of Houston.  The organizations teamed up to make a $100,000 donation for the permanent naming rights of the Discovery Center’s “How Are We Alike?” gallery.

Fort Bend Children's Discovery CenterJudy Schmid, owner and operator of various Fort Bend McDonald’s locations, along with Debbie Adams, former president of Ronald McDonald Charities, joined forces to come up with the donation.

The “How Are We Alike?” gallery will host rotating cultural exhibits.  The gallery’s debut exhibit will be Dragons and Fairies:  Exploring Viet Nam through Folktales.  Dragons and Fairies will provide a profusion of hands-on, interactive experiences where aspects of modern day life in Vietnam will interweave with centuries-old folktales.

The Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:45 a.m. on May 28, 2016.  The project is Imperial Market’s first retailer to open in its much-awaited commercial property development on U.S. Route 90 in Sugar Land.  Housed on the first floor of a 12,500 square foot repurposed historical building at Imperial Market (formerly known as Imperial Sugar and which is now being restored by Johnson Development), and with the mission to transform communities through innovative child-centered learning, six galleries will be managed as platforms for learning for children from birth to 12-years.

To purchase a tile or make a charitable donation, please contact Children’s Museum of Houston Development Director Tracy Golden at (713) 535-7218 or tgolden@cmhouston.org.
