Armour “Great Moms” Campaign Celebrates Houston Mother

LISLE, Ill. (April 23, 2016) – Armour, the makers of great and convenient products including frozen meatballs, pepperoni and portable meal kits honored an unsung hero Saturday during the Houston Children’s Festival in conjunction with their “Great Moms” campaign.  Armour took the stage to recognize and honor Joy Siebenman who is an extraordinary mom and a role model for mothers with children with disabilities.

Siebenman is the mother of two children, a daughter, Sara, and a son, Richard (Ibby), who has Down Syndrome.  As a result of Ibby’s diagnosis, Joy runs the Katy community group for the Down Syndrome Association of Houston and serves on the board of the Family to Family Network, which helps families of children with disabilities navigate the complex disability systems.  Joy believes that children with disabilities have value and belong and should be included within schools and communities and is also a leading advocate in the Houston community for this cause.

Great MomsIn addition, Siebenman works closely with her children’s schools and has shared her parent perspective on the Katy ISD Special Education Advocate committee and co-presented with district level employees at the Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education on how to partner with families.  She participated in the development of the Texas Education Agency Parent Companion website by contributing her thoughts to help other families not feel alone. Through her extensive volunteer work at Williams Elementary PTA, she helps ensure that the school is inclusive of all children. Finally, Joy is the fun-loving neighborhood mother who always has children at her home.

Siebenman was celebrated on stage at the McDonald’s Houston Children’s Festival benefitting Child Advocates.  Armour partnered with H-E-B to present Siebenman with $2,500 in free groceries to reward and celebrate her for being such a great mom both at home and in her community.

“Joy Siebenman’s commitment to serving her family and others exemplifies the spirit of the Armour ‘Great Moms’ campaign,” said Chuck Gitkin, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Smithfield Foods.  “Joy dedicates her life to speaking up for others by serving as an advocate for individuals with disabilities while being a great mom to her own two children.  Today we were honored to recognize these selfless acts and celebrate her accomplishments by rewarding her with $2,500 in free groceries at H-E-B.”

Armour was pleased to recognize Siebenman as part of their “Great Moms” campaign. The campaign celebrates, Great Moms, our everyday unsung heroes.  They are the ones who do it all, and do it all for us, without asking for any recognition. Great moms often go without praise and Armour is helping to change that by showing their appreciation for these everyday champions.

The campaign includes monthly events through November to surprise and celebrate unexpected great moms across the country.

“I’m a little shocked and surprised,” said Siebenman.  “I just enjoy being a mother.  I have a sister with a disability, and when my son was born, I knew he needed a support system too.  It’s part of being a mother that I love.  I think it’s great that people like Armour and H-E-B are stepping up and doing this for mothers.  I’m really honored.”
