Reforming Texas Guardianship Laws

thekatynews-logo-400 The HPRA speaker this Friday noon will be Debby Valdez, director of GRADE, the Guardianship Reform Advocates for the Disabled & Elderly. Ms. Valdez will inform us as to how Texas guardianship law violates the 14th amendment, as it allows guardians to strip estates of all assets and leave elderly citizens who are not incompetent destitute, and yet makes it very hard for them to prove otherwise. This is another case of well-intentioned law being manipulated by those in power to serve their interests. The system has become, says our speaker, “a scam.”

Debby will be assisted by local advocate for the elderly, Sam Perlin.

The presentation will build on the work of Lou Ann Anderson. who spoke to HPRA few years ago on this problem.
