Michele McCann recently presented a check for $5,000, on behalf of the Michael T. McCann Foundation, to Susan Browning, Branch Manager of Fort Bend County Libraries’ Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library.

The donation is part of the Michael T. McCann Foundation’s philanthropic efforts to support the Fulshear community. It will be used by the library to help fund the Youth Services department’s family programs, cultural events, and materials not included in the regular budget.
Michele McCann is the daughter of Carole McCann and the late Michael McCann, longtime supporters of the Fulshear community. Michele continues the family’s community involvement by volunteering at the library every Tuesday morning. Proceeds from the Michael T. McCann Foundation’s annual memorial bike ride are used to support the enrichment and beautification of the Fulshear community.

“We are fortunate to be a beneficiary of the Michael T. McCann Foundation’s philanthropic efforts,” says Browning. “The donation is very much appreciated. It will help us provide some needed items for the library and family programs for the community.”

Before his death in 2007, Dr. Michael McCann was a very well-known and well-respected veterinarian and grape-grower in the Fulshear community. An avid bicyclist, McCann spent many hours cycling each week, even while undergoing cancer treatments.

As Chairman of the Fulshear Planning Commission for many years, McCann devoted much of his time to the development and growth of the city. His widow, Carole, their children, and their grandchildren are dedicated to continuing his vision of seeing Fulshear grow into a prosperous community that cherishes the good, simpler things in life.

All proceeds from the annual “Bike for Mike” charity bike ride directly benefit special projects for the people of the Fulshear community and for beautification of the city. In addition to cultural events and materials at the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library, many other projects that have benefited from the generosity of the Michael T. McCann Foundation include upgrading historic cemeteries in the area with wrought-iron fencing and new trees, bicycles for children at Fulshear events, landscaping and stone work for the “Welcome to Fulshear” signs, and ongoing support of Arts Fulshear, the Fulshear Simonton Volunteer Fire Department, Faith FULL-Kids at Huggins Elementary, the Beauti-Fulshear Clean-Up Event, the Brookwood Community, local Boy and Girl Scout troops, and the new Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center in Sugar Land.
