The deadline for the Letters About Literature reading and writing contest for students in grades 4-8 is quickly approaching. Entries for the nationwide literary competition, sponsored by the Texas Center for the Book, must be postmarked by January 11, 2016, the deadline for students in grades 9-12 has also been extended through the aforementioned date to accommodate a greater number of applicants. Letters about Literature encourages young readers to read a book, poem or speech and write to the author (living or dead) to share how the book has affected them personally.
Letters are judged on state and national levels. Tens of thousands of students from across the country enter Letters About Literature each year. Students are not required to enter through a school or class, details on entry can be found by visiting tsl.texas.gov/centerforthebook.
